So many memories come to mind as I look back on my semester in Strasbourg. I think of my wonderful host family, the Schreckenbergers; our fearless leaders Susan, Beth, and Ron; and finally our lively, funny group with whom we shared so many amazing and wonderful experiences.
Besides relishing our life in beautiful Strasbourg, we were fortunate to go on several excursions as a group. Together we discovered Paris, sampled wine, visited a castle, celebrated Thanksgiving à la française, and partook of many opportunities to discover French life and culture, as well as speak French with the natives. One memory in particular was a trip we made to Nancy with one of our Profs, Dr. Ron Lyndaker. He took us to Nancy to see him perform in an opera, Dame de Piques.
It was because of my Strasbourg experience that I felt ready to go to grad school three years later to obtain a Master's Degree in French. My Strasbourg experience served me well as I easily found my francophone self once again, living and studying in Tours.
Twenty-seven years later I am teaching French at a community college in northeast Pennsylvania. I am certain that it was my stay in Strasbourg which led to me making the language a major part of my existence. Thank you BCA for such a rich and rewarding experience!
