1st Place Winner Betty Lai, Elizabethtown CollegeSapporo, Japan"This picture is of my dance team, Iharasuisan & Hokusei Gakuen performing in a parade in Odori Park during our first round of competition. There were over 200 teams in the Yosakoi Soran dance festival and my team placed top 10 this year. Everyone was so happy because we haven't been placed since 9 years ago. Each participating team is required to have a dance routine on stage and in a parade. During the parade part, each team is asked to do the parade routine for 5 times over 6 blocks, so it was a big accomplishment to be able to do that with my 128 teammates." |
2nd Place Winner Kathryn Bieber, Messiah CollegeCheltenham, England"I took this photo when I went to the Olympic Torch Relay this past Spring in my temporary home Cheltenham. The parade that was held for the passing of the torch was one of my favorite days spent in Cheltenham because I got to experience the entire community coming together to celebrate. It was amazing to see all these people exhibiting such pride for their country that I had also come to love. I especially enjoyed watching this group of young children because they cheered for England with such abandon that it was impossible not to share their enthusiasm." |
3rd Place Winner
Katherine Panczner, Messiah CollegeAthens, GreeceOn a BCA planned excursion to the Peloponnese, we were given the opportunity to visit a small town, Monemvasia, built into the side of a mountain surrounded on three sides by the sea. We climbed to the to of the mountain to find one of the most breathtaking sights yet, as seen in the photo. With such beauty ahead of us, we were at loss for what to do except to open our arms and welcome the sights and embrace it. (Pictured is Alyssa Korn). |
