Welcome Back!

Upon returning to the U.S., you face the challenge of integrating all of the things you have just experienced with your regular, day-to-day activities. Some students say this is the hardest part of their study abroad experience.

Re-entry shock affects every student differently, but you can expect to have changed relationships with your family and friends, and different feelings about your home campus, your home country and even about yourself.

  • Your family and friends may have a difficult time relating to your stories because your vivid memories may not translate into events they can picture.
  • Things might have changed on your home campus while you were gone.
  • You might have learned to look at the world and yourself through different lenses and from different perspectives.

With time, you will grow accustomed to life after study abroad, just like you learned to adjust when you first arrived at your study abroad location.

One of the best ways to deal with re-entry shock is to find places to share your experiences with people who truly want to hear and learn about them. BCA Study Abroad has created opportunities for you to share your stories and pictures with your friends, family, home institutions and other students who may be interested in study abroad through contests, our website and BCA Alumni Ambassador program.

BCA would love to help you spread the word about your amazing experience by inviting you to join our BCA Alumni Ambassadors program.
