Recently, UTG has been merging with technical training, teachers' training and social work institutes to create four year degrees in related subjects. In conjunction with The Gambia Technology Training Institute, UTG is combining GTTI offerings of 2 year degrees in a variety of technology related fields including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Civil Engineering (newly added) with the UTG’s currently available theory courses. GTTI currently has labs and facilities for applied teaching and construction of projects in all these fields and the merger allows for applied and theoretical work by students.

Engineering Track

Engineering Design & Community Project

Collaborate with communities and UTG Gambian students to create or repair solar power systems for village public health clinics.

Many village health clinics have solar systems that were donated by well-meaning international groups but lack the proper equipment or maintenance systems to keep them up and running. You will work with local Gambian students and community members to review the systems, determine the causes of malfunctions and then design locally relevant systems of maintenance (or suggest new methods) to improve these inadequate systems.

Social Sciences Track

Development and African Studies Programs

Delve deeper into Gambian society by participating in field placements.

Put into practice what you learn in the classroom with hands-on experience in The Gambia. In this program, you will gain an understanding of how other cultures approach and attempt to resolve social problems. Choose two courses in your discipline from the University of The Gambia curriculum, pick one of two required courses that focuses on Gambian society and culture and work with local populations at a field placement site.
