Dalian, China

Great Wall of China

Trips & Activities

One of the benefits of studying abroad with BCA is the excursions offered to the students throughout the semester.  These short trips are included in the fee.

Every semester, students will be able to go on several trips that vary from one to several days.  Though excursions may change from year to year, typically, a Beijing excursion (including trip to the Great Wall) will be scheduled for fall semester.

In addition, each semester, students will get the unique opportunity to go on a rural homestay visit.  This will allow students to see first-hand some of the issues that rural people in China face as opposed to those in major cities like Dalian and also offer them the chance to participate in a local service project.

Generally, the excursions scheduled for the academic year are:

Fall Semester:

  • Day trip to Dandong, on the border of China and North-Korea.  Includes: a visit to a Korean War museum (from the Chinese perspective); ride along Yalu River; discussions of Sino-Korean-U.S. security relationship.
  • Excursion to Beijing and the Great Wall (several days)
  • Rural homestay visit-Shandong Province (several days)
  • Opportunities to watch Chinese opera performances, Kung-Fu exhibitions.

Spring Semester:

  • Weekend trip to Bing Yugou Park (Northeast China’s version of the famous Guilin)
  • Excursion to Shanghai and Xiamen (several days)
  • Rural homestay visit-Shandong Province (several days)
  • Opportunities to watch Chinese opera performances, Kung-fu exhibitions.

“The most worthwhile part for me was the time spent traveling with our director, Danny Hsu. Every trip was well-planned, timely, educational, entertaining, and, in terms of experience, completely new for all of us students every single time. I gained a HUGE viewpoint of China in many aspects because of the excursions.”
